You probably won't read this, but I feel compelled to write it anyway.
PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, BUY YOUR CAT A REFLECTIVE COLAR! YOU ALMOST LOST HIM/HER TONIGHT!
I don't know how you feel about this cat, but he/she seemed well-fed and sleek. Signs you care. He/she did not look like a stray.
I don't know why you let him/her out, but I have had cats that are stubborn and will get out, even if you try to make them stay indoors. I can't judge your circumstances.
But you don't know how close to tragity you came tonight. As well as the car behind me, who had to swerve to avoid hitting me.
Your cat came shooting across the road like a blurr. I slammed on my brakes, but by the time I stopped, I couldn't even see your cat. Which means your cat was way too close to the wheels of my car for comfort.
When I got out of the car and went out to check, your cat was huddled on the ground, I think waiting for the wheels to crunch him/her. I picked him/her up (Nice purr, BTW) and brought him/her to the side of the road. I hope he/she is on the correct side of the road and is heading home. The moment I put him/her down, he/she ran off like a shot.
I couldn't see your cat until it was almost too late. I almost ended his/her life tonight.
And I love cats. I'm one of those people that will risk my car to avoid hurting a cat. What about someone else? It's late. There is a big carnival at time. People are going to be heading home with a devil may care attitude. How many of them will drive not looking out for your friend?
Please, if you care at all about this animal, if he/she is a member of your family, much like my two cats are, do what you can to protect him/her. Get him/her a collar that will shine in the lights and warn people that he/she is around.
Late night and black cats do not mix.
Show some compassion. For christ's sake, he/she is not a toy, or something that you can "just replace." It's a living, breathing, being.
