You probably had to be there.

Todd and I went to lunch today, because, well, we were hungry. And, the place up the street has great deals on lunch.

While we were eating, this woman came in with her son, who was probably around seven or eight. I don't know why he wasn't in school, but I no longer really worry about that, because it seems that every other day there is a holiday, inservice day, or something, that keeps kids out of school. That, and homestudy has become more popular too. So anyway, there was a kid in the restaurant. Seemed like a nice kid, except that he kept singing this one Christmas carol... and apparently, he decided the carol really was too long and involved, so he was going to simplify it. So, this was his version:
On the first day of Christmas
My tulips gave to me
A partridge in a pear tree!
On the second day of Christmas
My tulips gave to me
A partridge in a pear tree!
On the third day of Christmas
My tulips gave to me
A partridge in a pear tree
On the fourth day of Christmas
My tulips gave to me
A partridge in a pear tree
On the fifth day of Christmas
My tulips gave to me
FIVE MORE TO SING!
And a partridge in a pear tree!
I have no idea if the kid was deliberately messing with the song, if he'd honestly misunderstood it, or if it was a combination of both, but it was taking everything I had not to bust a gut laughing. The kid had a sweet sort-of voice for a kid. Not trained, but he had some talent for singing.

I don't think I will ever hear that song again without thinking of that kid.
