I was walking down to the park to take my walk today, when I saw, walking down the sidewalk, a kitten. A very young kitten, who still had blue eyes and a great wad of snot around his little nose and some around his eyes.
It was an orange striped kitten. Those of you who know me, realize this was a very dangerous situtation, because I have the hugest weakness for orange striped cats. But either way, the little fellow was way too young to be taking a stroll down the street. So, I stoped the pedometer, turned off the discman, and started knocking on doors.
No one would answer the doors anywhere. And I know some of these people were home, because the one building had about six cars parked in the driveway. I have a funny feeling that the kitten has been abandoned, probably due to general lack of health.
Kitten kept climbing up on my shoulder and trying to nuzzle my hair. I kept wiping off his nose and eyes with a klenex.
A woman walked by and helped me knock on some doors as well. No one answered. She told me I should take the kitten home. I said I would, but I have two cats and this kitten didn't seem healthy. She agreed to take the kitten.
I feel guilty. Poor little thing. I don't know if this person is trustworthy at all. Then again, she was nice enough to help me knock on doors. And, I can't risk the health of my cats to bring in a stray that is clearly not in great health.
So, I went on my walk. And walked 2.46 miles today. Felt great too. After the disaster walking over vacation, it feels really good to be back into the swing of things again. And, I'm finally seeing where I'm building up. It used to be a strain for me to do 3 laps around the park. Today I did six and was still feeling good. Tired and a tiny bit sore as I headed home, but in general, good.
Now I have to wash my jacket, just in case that kitten left anything on my clothes that might leap onto my cats.
I hope the little guy is okay. He was awful cute.
