All right! Enthusiasm glad for someone

Well, what do you know..

I was right. I am walking faster than the pedometer is registering. See, I found out today, by calling the nice person at the parks and recreation department, that we in this city, do indeed have a "walking track" that the general public are welcome to use. The HS uses it as well, but as long as they aren't there, it's open to the public.

It's 1/4 mile for a lap.

Sooo, I drive up and I do four laps and totally lose track of the time, cause I'm a dork. But, I check the pedometer and it's saying I only did .74 miles. Something is clearly not right. I had reset the step lenght.

So, I walk some more. I lose track at one point, of the number of laps, but I start again. At one point I count the steps I take and check the pedometer again and realize it's off. Not on step length, just on steps in general.

Well, at the very end, after I've walked either 3 3/4 miles or 3 1/2 miles, I take a breather, and do one lap, noting the time carefully. It is exactly 2:00. I figure being a bit tired out will make the results a little on the low side, but I just want to see.

I do one last lap in 4 minutes. 4 X 4 is 16, last time I checked... sooo, while it's not quite 4 miles an hour, it's over 3 miles an hour. And trust me, that last lap was at a "fair pace." My usual walking speed.

So, I'm feeling pretty good... I go over to the car...

And realize I locked my keys inside of it.

I'm telling you, it was extreme dork day. Well, it's not too far from the house... but remember, I'd just walked 3 1/2 or 3 3/4 miles, I was a bit tired. But, I don't have a cell phone and even if I did, Todd is not going to wake up because the phone rings.

So, I do what any person would do in the situation... I go into the ladies room. Yes, this place has functioning bathrooms! And they're heated! I use the facilities, wash my hands, and consider if I should burst into tears. Then I say to myself, "Like that's going to help?"

So, I walked home, got the spare key, and walked back. Then I got into my car and drove home. I set the trip odometer to zero and checked how far it was to walk home (I had walked home entirely on the sidewalks, not cutting through any parking lots or anything else, just for this purpose) I found out it was 1 and 4/10 of a mile.

So...I ended up walking really, 6.3 miles. Which is double my usual walk.

Yes, my legs are tired, but I'm pretty proud of myself. Back in the early part of October, I never would have done it. Okay, I might have done it, simply because I really had no choice, but I'll bet when I'd gotten home, I would have called a cab to take me up to the car, even though we really don't have the money for a cab. But I didn't. I walked, both stupid ways to get the car.

And then I returned the pedometer, and got a new one. And I'm having the same problems with this one too. *sighs* It's not step lenght, cause I redid that, after testing it about a million times. My step varies from 27" to 32". So, I put it at 30, figuring that's the "average" No, the problem is that it doesn't register all my steps. I have tested it several times walking 100 steps and it's never exact, always under. If it was under by a few, I wouldn't care, but I've had results that have ranged from 42 steps to 89 steps. That's a pretty big margin of error.

So, I guess I have to fiddle some more with where it's placed.

But, I walked over 6 miles today. I don't give a damn that the pedometer said 5.25, I counted those laps, I measured the way home. I walked over six freaking miles

Coming from someone who's idea of exersize was to have to walk across the room to get the remote, less than two months ago, I'm very pleased with myself. Do I think I should walk six miles every day? Not yet I don't. But the fact that I could do it, and so far, I don't seem to be in undue pain over it, says a lot. We'll see tomorrow how I feel. I work tomorrow though, so I won't be walking.

Yes, I'm a total dork for locking my keys in my car, I'll be the first to admit that. But at least it proved something to me.

Ah, if only I had a tub, so I could soak... but I don't, so I guess the shower will have to do.
